Award for Adam

ADAM McGoldrick is hoping to follow in his father's footsteps as a politician.

Either that or he'd like to cross to the other side of the divide and become a journalist.

The Craigavon student, who is the son of Craigavon Councillor Michael McGoldrick, has been awarded a major scholarship at Queen's University for achieving the highest average mark in his year. The award saw him pick up a bursary of 1,000.

The 20-year-old student got the first year award for his outstanding results in the Politics, Philosophy and Economics course. The new course at Queen's is the same course David Cameron studied at Oxford.

Adam went to school St Colmans in Newry and St Patrick's, Derrytrasna.

Of his 1,000 award he said: "I thought it was going to be 20 or a gift certificate. I was shocked when I found out I was getting 1,000. I'll probably use it to pay off rent and for books."

He added: "I've always been interested in politics. I'd like to work in either journalism or politics."
