Award for Brownlow GP practice

THE Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) has presented a local GP practice in Brownlow with an award for outstanding General Practice.

The Hunter Family Practice received the Quality Practice Award (QPA) in recognition of them achieving and delivering high standards of patient care.

The practice is the 15th practice in Northern Ireland to receive the award and the first husband and wife ran practice to do so. This in itself is a remarkable achievement due to the large volume of work that is required for the award. It is therefore a testimony to the extremely high standard of care that this Practices patient’s are receiving.

The Quality Practice Award (QPA) is a quality assurance process, undertaken by GP practices, which recognises a high standard of quality patient care delivered by every member of the practice team. Each practice is required to submit a portfolio of written evidence set against 23 sets of criteria including clinical care, health promotion, and continuity of care. A panel of four assessors then visit the practice to interview the staff and make recommendations for continuing improvement.

A plaque to commemorate their achievement was presented to the Practice Team at their practice in Portadown and was presented by the Northern Ireland Manager of RCGP.

Dr Hunter said, “We are delighted to receive this award, which has been the result of a prolonged period of hard work by all members of the practice team and attached staff. We thank all of them for their dedication and commitment. We have always tried to put our patients at the forefront of everything we do, and we thank them all for their loyalty, especially those who agreed to be interviewed for their very kind comments.”
