Award for Railway

LONDONDERRY Railway Station has been presented with a Gold TIDY Translink Award by TIDY Northern Ireland.

The awards support Translink employees in developing a culture of continuous environmental improvement and aim to enhance the journey experiences of passengers through the visual appearance, environmental performance and quality of local facilities.

This year’s awards attracted the highest level of entries to date with 38 stations taking part and Londonderry Railway Station was one of 10 stations across Northern Ireland to pick up Gold status.

Participants were assessed based on 10 environmental categories and Chief Executive of TIDY Northern Ireland, Dr Ian Humphreys, said that the Awards results show that Translink employees are continuing to develop a real enthusiasm for improving the environmental performance of their facilities: “Three years of TIDY Translink Awards has seen staff driving ongoing improvements to environmental performance in Translink’s facilities across Northern Ireland, despite raising the bar this year by adding additional assessment criteria. I would like to congratulate Translink employees on the high standards they have set and which demonstrate their environmental commitment. I hope this impressive performance will be sustained moving forward.” said Dr Humphreys.

Translink Environmental Officer Andy Bate said: “As a major service provider and employer operating at the heart of local communities right across Northern Ireland, we recognise our responsibility towards looking after the environment. Our partnership with TIDY Northern Ireland has assisted Translink in identifying and tackling local environmental quality issues across our bus and rail network. These awards reflect the extra effort made by local Translink employees in looking after their work environment for the benefit of both colleagues and Translink passengers.”

The 2009 TIDY Translink Awards assessment categories included: general cleanliness; litter awareness; graffiti awareness; exterior maintenance; waste management; Translink brand; facility enhancement; community involvement; energy management; and environmental communication.
