Award for St Louis students

A group of AS Level Biology students at St Louis Grammar School in Ballymena have taken third place in a major science competition.

The contest was organised by Cancer Research UK and the Centre for Cancer Research and Cell Biology at Queen’s.

Students had been invited by Cancer Research UK to enter a competition to produce a short video to promote the work of CCRCB and Belfast Cancer Research UK Centre.

The competition asked entrants to develop a video to engage the public with the cancer research happening at the CCRCB and its potential impact on patients, and to encourage public support for this work.

The St Louis’ team which included pupils Catriona Nelson, Emma Lagan, Shannon Heffron and Laura McDonnell were awarded third place for their information video on prostate cancer.

Margaret Carr, Cancer Research UK research engagement manager, said: “The work of the semi-finalists in the CCRCB/CRUK contest was really outstanding.

“They all showed a tremendous understanding of the nature of cancer and what we are trying to do here to beat it; and the creativity and promotional work was fantastic.

“Who knows? We might see some of these students back working at the Centre some-day.”
