Award winning director coming to Cinema City

One of Hollywood’s most influential directors, Paul Greengrass, will be in Londonderry on Thursday November 14 attending three events around the city.

The Bafta winning director will be present at a questions and answers session and screening of his new smash-hit film, Captain Phillips, starring Tom hanks, at Brunswick Omniplex at 10am. Tickets cost £4.50 plus £2.50 for school bookings.

Following this he will attend a free screening of the seminal documentary-style film, Bloody Sunday, dealing with the events of January 1972, being held at 3.30pm at the Rat Mor centre.

Finally the director will be in conversation with University of Ulster professor Martin McCloone. The event is being held in the Foyle theatre in the Northwest Regional College at 7pm. Greengrass will be discussing his impressive catalogue of films. Tickets are £6.50.

Paul Greengrass has become one of Hollywood’s most successful directors. He is best known for his films dealing with real life events such as Bloody Sunday, United 93 and most recently Captain Phillips.

He has also had major success around the world as the director of The Bourne Supremacy and Ultimatum.

“Paul Greengrass is perhaps one of the most exciting directors working in film today,” says Martin Melarkey, Cultural Programmer of Cinema City, “And it is a great coup for us to be able to welcome him to Derry. It will be a treat to hear what he has to say on films like Bloody Sunday in the city in which it had such a profound impact.”

Along with Paul Greengrass, Cinema City promises an amazing line up of special guests throughout the month long event. Other guests include Oscar winning director, Danny Boyle, Pulitzer prize winning writer,Sam Shephard and Irish actor, Stephen Rea who will all be holding special sessions.
