The Trust aims to build confidence in people who, because of personal circumstances, may have to approach life from a different angle to achieve and be involved in the community.

The William Keown Trust, which is now in its 34th year, once again received a high volume of nominations for this year’s awards.

The ceremony recently took place in the Seagoe Hotel in Portadown, with 66 recipients from right across the province.

Mason (19), from Whitehead, was given the Flogas Shield, an adult achiever’s award, while Stephen received the Haldene Butler Memorial Cup.

Philip Beattie, chairman of the Trust, welcomed Councillor Colin McCusker, Mayor of Craigavon Borough Council, the recipients, their families and friends together with Kate Smith, the Trust’s President and Council dignities. He gave a special welcome to Kelly Gallagher, a gold medal winner at the Winter Paralympic Games, who received a special trophy from the Trust in recognition of her great achievement.

Concluding what was a memorable afternoon for all concerned, Olive Fulton, director and treasurer of the Trust proposed a comprehensive vote of thanks.
