Backpackers’ accommodation monitored after complaint

DERRY City Council officers have served a number of enforcement notices on the owner of a Londonderry backpackers’ accommodation after receiving a complaint about its “unsatisfactory condition.”

A report by the Chief Environmental Health Officer explains: “Following the receipt of a complaint regarding the unsatisfactory condition of a premises providing residential accommodation for tourists, primarily back-packers, officers have served a number of enforcement notices on the owner under the Health & Safety at Work (NI) Order 1978 to address poor workplace standards within the premises.

“The department is continuing to monitor the premises with a view to considering legal proceedings.

“I will keep the Committee informed in due course.”
