Offences included excess speed, no seatbelts, use of a mobile phone while driving and a defective tyre.

Fourteen breath tests were carried out. None proved positive for excess alcohol.

The operation was carried out by PSNI Roads Policing in association with Larne officers as part of the PSNI’s winter “safer driving” campaign and ongoing efforts to improve road safety.

Chief Inspector Stephen McCauley said: “Vehicles were stopped in areas including Ballycarry, Gleno, Glynn village and Islandmagee.

“It’s disappointing that some people are not listening to road safety messages and continue to speed on local roads and use their mobiles while driving.

“However, fixed penalty notices should be a wake-up call for people. Road safety operations will continue across Larne and the outlying areas.

“I ask people to make the right decisions when they drive. Please keep your speed down, don’t use your phone when driving and never, ever drink and drive.

“No one wants a fixed penalty notice for a motoring offence on the mouth of Christmas. However, the stark reality is that excess speed or bad decision making when driving can
mean killing or seriously injuring yourself or another road user.”
