Bail refused for second man on attempted murder charge

A second Greenisland man charged with the attempted murder of a Larne resident has been refused bail.

Steven Adam Blackwood, aged 38, of Moyard Gardens, had his bail application refused at the High Court on Monday, June 30.

He is facing charges of attempted murder, intimidation, criminal damage and rioting relating to an incident on March 30, when a mob attacked a Portuguese resident’s home in Knockdhu Park in Larne.

Police, residents and homes in Ferris Avenue were also targeted.

A total of 26 people have so far been arrested by police in connection with the disorder.

Last week, Mr Blackwood’s co-defendant Stephen Mettleton, aged 34, of Rossmore Green, also had a bail application refused.

Both men will appear via videolink at Ballymena Magistrate’s Court on July 17.
