Bail refused in ‘body in the bin’ murder case

Shauneen Boyle, Edenderry Park, Banbridge, appeared by way of videolink from Hydebank.

The charge against her alleges that between July 4 and July 5 last year she murdered Mr Creaney.

Opposing bail a detective sergeant said that Boyle and her co-accused were both blaming each other for what happened.

He added that blood found on her shoes matched that of Mr Creaney and the DNA of both defendants had been found at the scene.

The officer said she had a substantial record for violence and he feared there would be a risk of further offending.

He also suggested there may be a flight risk as she had previously planned to go to live with her father in Liverpool.

A solicitor representing Boyle said she had given police a detailed, comprehensive account of what happened.

He added that police had recovered the body because the defendant revealed during interview where the body was and she did not stonewall police.

A social worker told the court she saw the defendant on a regular basis and social services would have no objection to her being released on bail.

She said Boyle was 100 per cent committed to her son and would not be a flight risk.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said he was not considering the defendant as a flight risk but refused bail because of the risk of re-offending and interfering with witnesses.

Boyle was remanded to appear in court again on videolink on March 8.
