Ballinderry PS is ‘outstanding’

The Principal of Ballinderry Primary and Nursery Unit, Mrs Lorraine Magowan spoke of her delight that the school received an ‘outstanding’ inspection report.

The ETI described the Leadership and Management of the school and nursery unit as well as the Achievements, Standards and Provision as ‘outstanding.’

She said that the staff and governors were delighted that the excellent work in Ballinderry Primary and Nursery Unit has been formally acknowledged.

“Over the last four years, the senior leaders have overseen successfully important development work in numeracy and literacy, while maintaining, and building on a commitment to fulfilling appropriate pastoral, environmental and community-based aims,” said Mrs Magowan.

“They have sustained a clear focus on improving the children’s learning experiences and achievements.”

The report also praised the children’s outstanding achievements in Literacy.

It said, “The children have very good listening skills and express themselves confidently through meaningful class and group discussions.

“They read fluently, with expression and understanding, and display consistent levels of interest in reading for enjoyment.

2The quality and accuracy of the children’s written work across the curriculum is of a very high standard… and is a particular strength in the school.”

The ETI also described as ‘high level of skill’ using a wide range of mental mathematics strategies.”

The Nursery Unit was described as having ‘high levels of interest and concentration in the wide range of stimulating activities.’

It stated, “Positive working relationships at all levels, foster an inclusive and settled ethos in the nursery unit.

“The quality of their interaction with the children is consistently of a very high standard.”
