Ballycarry to get Ulster-Scots worker

BALLYCARRY Community Association is to have assistance with Ulster-Scots projects in the area, with a part-time administrator being supported for the group.

The association successfully applied for funding from the Ulster-Scots Agency for an administrative post and says the appointment will be a timely one.

“There are several projects of an Ulster-Scots nature which we would like to see carried forward, not least the annual Broadisland Gathering festival,” said Dr David Hume, chairman.

The post, which was advertised in the Larne Times last week, will be for a part-time employee and application forms can be requested from the secretary of the association.

Initially for one year, it is hoped that the post will be renewed.

The decision to support a post in the area came after concerns were expressed locally about the future of the Broadisland Gathering festival, but the association says that there are other plans to support Ulster-Scots cultural and heritage projects as well as the festival itself.

“We would have liked to see a development post for the area, but have taken the view that a part-time post is worthwhile in itself, and we look forward to working with the successful applicant to develop Ulster-Scots projects in the area,” the association chairman said.
