Ballycastle farm dwelling plans are facing 'refusal'

PLANNERS were of the opinion to refuse permission for a site for a farm dwelling near Ballycastle, applied for by Messrs J & J Darragh.

One reason given for the possible refusal of a site for a farm dwelling 50 metres south of 69 Churchfield Road is that it does merit being considered as an exceptional case in that it has not been demonstrated that the proposed new building is visually linked or sited to cluster with an established group of buildings on the farm.

Planners also stated the applicant has not provided satisfactory evidence that a new dwelling is a necessary response to the particular circumstances of the case or that any hardship would be caused if the planning permission would be refused.

Planners further said the building would, if permitted, result in a suburban style build-up of development when viewed with existing and approved buildings, this would result in a detrimental change to further erode the rural character of the countryside. Finally, the planners stated that the proposal has failed to demonstrate satisfactory access arrangements.

Sinn Fein councillor Oliver McMullan asked for the case to be deferred for a month.
