Ballycastle man crossed railway lines when train approaching

A BALLYCASTLE man has been fined after he drove across railway lines when a train was approaching.

Sean Hindman, a farm labourer of Capecastle Road, pleaded guilty to the offence at North Antrim Magistrates Court on Friday.

The court heard a man operating the signal box at a level crossing on the Ballycastle Road in Coleraine observed a motorist crossing the railway line in a red Ford Escort while the warning lights were flashing.

Police later questioned the defendant who admitted being the driver at the time.

He told police he couldn’t remember the occasion but said he was in the area at the time.

A defence lawyer said her client was a very careful driver.

Hindman - who was not in court - was fined 75 and ordered to pay costs of 89.
