Ballycastle man fined over disorderly behaviour incident

Police officers were called to a report of fighting on a bus which stopped at a 24-hour garage in Ballymena at 3am and a man said they were 'nothing but Orange b--tards'.

Sean Laverty (24), of Mayo Drive, Ballycastle, was fined £150 at Ballymena Magistrates Court when he pleaded guilty to a charge of being disorderly at North Road, Ballymena, on December 6 last year.

A prosecutor told the court the defendant also asked officers: “What the f--k do you think you are doing?”

A defence lawyer said the incident “hit home” and his client has since abstained from alcohol.

District Judge Des Perry said it seemed as if the defendant, who previously had a suspended sentence, has turned his life around.
