Ballycastle student is top economist

A Ballycastle student has attained the highest mark in GCSE Economics in the whole of Northern Ireland.

Ronan McCarry, who is a student at Loreto College in Coleraine, was placed first in CCEA GCSE Economics.

Ronan is continuing his studies at Loreto. He is taking Economics, Mathematics, Physics and Religious Education.

At GCSE, the Loreto College Economics department scored a remarkable hat-trick of successes, with Loreto students being placed first, second and third in CCEA GCSE Economics.

After Ronan in first place, in second place was Joseph McNerlin, who is studying Economics, History, Government and Politics and Spanish at AS level.

In third place was Brega Mullan, who has gone on to study Biology, Chemistry, Economics and Geography at AS level.

Mr Michael James, Principal of Loreto College, congratulated all four students, along with their teachers, Miss E Curry, Mrs M McGreevy and Miss K Gauld (Geography), and Mr G McGouran and Mrs S Mellon (Economics) on these wonderful achievements, on behalf of all the staff and students of the College.
