Ballycastle to get boating regatta

BALLYCASTLE Marina is set to be the hub for a sailing and boating regatta this summer from Friday 22nd to Sunday 24th June, writes Niall Caldwell.

Harbour Master for Moyle District Council, John Morton, aims to include boat owners not just from within the Moyle area but also from other harbours and marinas throughout Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Ideally situated on the north coast, Ballycastle has all the modern facilities to accommodate such an event and with the naturally beautiful surroundings of Rathlin Island, the Glens of Antrim and the Giant’s Causeway, it is an ideal location to showcase marine tourism in Northern Ireland.

Events are to include several sailing races, powerboat events, a boat jumble sale and “have a go” activities for all the family where anyone can try out something new such as sailing, kayaking, surfing, etc.

Esther Mulholland of Moyle Council told councillors said it is hoped to establish the event as an annual attraction in Ballycastle.

The regatta has been welcomed by councillors including Joan Baird and Randal McDonnell.
