The station on the Ballynure Road is one of 12 stations in the police estate, which will be sold as part of plans announced in the 2016 PSNI Estate Strategy.

The strategy outlines PSNI plans for major and minor works, custody provision and proposed station disposals up until 2019.

Commenting on the sale of the stations, Policing Board Chair, Anne Connolly, said: “The disposal of 12 station sites which are currently sitting closed delivers welcome returns of about £1.5 million back into the pocket of the PSNI with a significant saving each year on running costs.”

Ballyclare UUP representative, Cllr Vera McWilliam said the sale of the town’s police station was a “very sad day for the area.”

Cllr McWilliam added: “The station has been lying empty for some time, so hopefully the site is put to good use. I hope that the money gained from this sale is not used foolishly and that it is used to increase police numbers.”
