Zoë Fleck (13) received a Coaguchek machine to monitor her condition thanks to funds raised by Bryson Recycling’s ‘Recycling Rewards’ campaign.

With Recycling Week running until September 18, a number of local businesses have pledged to donate £1 to Children’s Heartbeat Trust for every tonne of paper, glass and plastic collected through Bryson’s weekly kerbside recycling service,

Sharing their experiences of the campaign, Zoë’s parents said: “When Zoë was a baby, she was diagnosed with a heart condition called Pulmonary Atresia with Hypoplastic Right Ventricle. Doctors told us she had a big fight ahead of her and before the night was out she was christened and moved into intensive care.

“The next day Zoë had her first surgery and made a good recovery. Since then she’s gone on to have more procedures including two open heart surgeries. Thanks to the support of Children’s Heartbeat Trust, we’ve been there by her side constantly. After her third operation she was put on Warfarin and initially visited hospital once a week. Thanks to the Recycling Rewards, she has her own test machine enabling her to self-check and medicate Warfarin. It’s great to see businesses coming together to encourage homeowners to recycle. It’s something so simple that can really make a difference.”
