'Ballyclare very much open for business'

BALLYCLARE is open for business.

That was the message issued this week by the town's Chamber of Trade amid the ongoing traffic chaos as roadworks progress on Main Street.

Work on the street improvement scheme, which got under way on January 4, has seen one lane of Main Street closed to traffic on weekdays, on-street parking restrictions imposed and a diversion put in place through the Ollardale estate.

Last week the Times revealed how South Antrim MP William McCrea had called an urgent meeting with Roads Service officials to discuss concerns raised by traders about the potential loss of business during the projected 12-week period of the road and footpath resurfacing works.

The meeting, held at Dr McCrea's School Street office on Thursday (January 7), was attended by traders, Roads Service officials, political representatives, the contractor carrying out the works, PSNI officers and local residents.

While Dr McCrea wasn't available for comment at the time of going to print, the town's Chamber of Trade did release a statement about the outcome of the talks.
