Spar Ballygally owner Grahame Todd has decided to take the barometer of public opinion by creating a ‘polling station’, erecting two scrolls bearing the words “stay” and “exit” at the shop.

However, Grahame has substituted the principal of ‘one man, one vote’ for ‘one coin, one vote,’ with all money raised going to the adult hospice.

“I thought it would be a good way to see how Ballygally voted, as well as raising some funds for a very worthy cause,” Grahame explained.

“It doesn’t matter if you put a penny or a pound in, all the money will go to the hospice. You just come into the shop and drop your coin into whichever option you want to vote for.”

Grahame, who is still an “undecided” voter, says he believes the EU referendum on June 23 is the most important election in a generation.

“If you only vote once in your life, this is the election to do it in,” Grahame stated.

People say things never change, but this is a chance to do something about it with a simple yes or no.

“I do think that people in Ballygally will turn out to vote, I have been having conversations with a lot of them.

“People are definitely taking a lot of interest and some groups I have spoken to wouldn’t be voting how you might expect.

“At the minute I am predicting that the UK will vote yes to stay in the EU.”
