Ballymena Floral Artistsget ready for new season

BALLYMENA Floral Art Club is ready to start the 2011/2012 season with an exciting new programme of events kicking off on September 19 in Michelin Athletic Club at 7.30pm.

The club, formed in 1975, is in its 36th year, is still going from strength to strength with the support, enthusiasm and dedication of the succession of another strong committee with Isobel Petticrew at the helm. The Club’s calendar of events commences in September each year and continues with monthly meetings until June when they break up for the summer recess and it is their aim to give members the opportunity to attend monthly meetings which can take the format of a talk, demonstration, workshop where members participate, garden visit, etc.

In addition, members have the opportunity to enter a monthly competition and points are awarded at three levels - Novice, Intermediate and Open Classes. At the end of the year, the overall winners in these classes are awarded The Elizabeth McLeister Vase, The Mavis Speers Trophy and The May Matthews Salver respectively. In addition, the person who submits the most entries at Flower Shows and NIGFAS events over the year is awarded The Sadie Lorimer Shield.

The first competition of the year is an arrangement using one flower titled “Making the most of a single bloom” and demonstrator for the evening will be Jennifer Mitchell with the title of “Flowers Home and Away”.

Visitors and new members are welcome to go along and join in on September 19.
