Ballymena parade to be held on Friday evening

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Ulster Solemn League and Covenant Ballymena North Apprentice Boys of Derry Campsie Club and St Patrick’s LOL 1123 have organised an Ulster Day parade on Friday 28th September.

The parade will depart from the Wakehurst Road at 8pm sharp. The parade will be led by both men and women in period costume and accompanied by a number of bands.

The parade route is Wakehurst Road, Larne Road, North Road, the Penatgon, Lower Mill Street, Wellington Street, Church Street, Queen Street finishing at Wakehurst Road. At the finish point there will be readings of the Covenant and the Women’s Declaration.

The parade organisers are aware of many events throughout the province have been organised to mark this historic event and feel that the signing of the Covenant should be celebrated at a local level.

A spokesman said: “Ballymena Unionists were not found wanting in 1912 with thousands of men and women pledging to use all means necessary to defeat Home Rule. All members of the Loyal Orders are welcome to participate in this event and to celebrate one of the most pivotal events in our history.”
