Ballymena Parkinson’s UK branch supports groundbreaking research

PARKINSON’S UK, the support and research charity, is committed to finding better treatments and a cure for Parkinson’s.

That’s why the Ballymena & District Branch of the charity has been busy raising funds for groundbreaking Parkinson’s research.

Jimmy McClean, Chairman of the Ballymena & District Branch of Parkinson’s UK, said: “Every hour someone in the UK is told they have Parkinson’s, but at the moment there is no cure.

“We have raised £2,000 through fundraising projects and the branch has decided to send this to support a Parkinson’s research project being carried out by Professor Anne Rosser on ‘Improving the way we replace the nerve cells lost in Parkinson’s’.

“It is really motivating to be able to help researchers understand the causes of Parkinson’s, improve treatments and work towards finding a cure,” said Mr McClean.

Parkinson’s UK is the largest charity funder of Parkinson’s research in the UK. Major advances have come from research we’ve supported – helping to improve treatment and care for people living with Parkinson’s, both within the UK and worldwide.

So far, Parkinson’s UK has invested more than £50million in groundbreaking research and by 2014, that figure will have reached £75million.
