Ballymena ready for Olympic torch arrival

BALLYMENA is ready and eagerly awaiting the historic arrival of the Olympic flame this afternoon.

It may be raining and the weather forecast may not be the greatest but the atmosphere is hotting up for the start of Ballymena’s involvement in the Torch Relay around the world.

Security has been stepped up in and around the town in advance of the torch touching down at its starting point in the borough - the Broughshane Road - and music is being played out from the bandstand in the town centre where the torch bearers will pass by in mid-afternoon.

Their route through the town is - Broughshane Road at 2.23pm to Broughshane Street, past the Bandstand, down Church Street and Bridge Street (past The Braid), over Harryville Bridge, out Larne Street to Larne Road link, and then switch to vehicle convoy to Moorfields.

Two torch bearers will carry it in Moorfields at 3pm and then the torch will switch to vehicle convoy bound for the Larne Ferry at 3.10pm.
