Ballymena tops for food safety

A UK-wide investigation by ‘Which?’ magazine has ranked Ballymena Borough Council as one of the UK’s top enforcers of food safety.

For the second year running the Council was named as the sixth best in the UK and Northern Ireland’s best performing Council.

Although businesses, such as restaurants and food manufacturers are responsible for complying with hygiene rules, Councils are tasked with enforcement.

The ‘Which?’ report cited the Council for the tailored advice sessions which it runs for local businesses as best practice for other UK Local Authorities.

Cllr. Beth Adger, Chair of Ballymena Borough Council’s Regulatory and Operational Services Committee, added: “Ballymena has a reputation for great eating establishments and is home to some of Northern Ireland’s largest food manufacturers.

“We’re delighted to be assessed as the sixth best Council out of 395 authorities across the UK and will continue to ensure that Ballymena has a reputation for the highest standards - consumers can have confidence about what they are eating in Ballymena.”
