Ballymoney back in the movie spotlight

BALLYMONEY is back in the movie spotlight with another production being partly filmed here - this time for the small screen.

‘Game of Thrones’ is an upcoming American medieval fantasy television series created by David Benioff and Dan Weiss for HBO.

The series, based on author George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series of novels, follows a civil war for the Iron Throne set in the fictional universe of Westeros, fought between the rival royal and noble families and their respective supporters.

The series is being made by Fire and Blood Productions and part of the shoot was at Leslie Hill Farm in a field of willows.

Local man, John Leslie, was the location provider and he has already stated that he will be using his influence to bring as much business as he can to the town.

On August 3, crews began filming at Leslie Hill for a series that features such names as Sean Bean and Charles Dance.

Last October, the Production Company Wee Buns filmed ‘Cup Cakes’ a romantic comedy set in Ballymoney which has proved very successful.

Mr. Leslie, one of the directors of the company, has revealed that the film has been accepted and has show at Rhode Island in New York, Strasbourg Film Festival and will also feature at Los Angeles and Florida Film Festivals.

Viewers in Northern Ireland can expect to see the film probably in a year’s time.

The Glens of Antrim was also chosen for a major American series for Twentieth Century Fox and a low budget film, ‘Blood of the Lamb’, based entirely in Northern Ireland, will also have local venues when shooting starts on November 14 for one month. Mr. Leslie was engaged as Art Director.

Mr. Leslie has pledged to do what he can to use Ballymoney wherever possible with Leslie Hill Farm an ideal venue.
