Ballymoney floristry student hopes for 'budding' success

NRC floristry mature student, Penny McIntyre (above) from Ballymoney, puts the finishing touches to a floral display as she practices for the Worldskills UK regional heat floristry competition on June 9th.

Penny is one of two NRC representatives taking part in the competition which tests the technical and creative skills of those who work or are training in floristry.

Penny, who currently works at Buds 'n' Bows florists in Ballymoney, is also studying the City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate in Creative Techniques (Floral Display) at NRC's Ballymena Campus and will be competing in the advanced competition at the College of Agriculture, Greenmount Campus in Antrim.

Course tutor at NRC Rossalind McGuckin said, "The competition is an excellent way for floristry students and professional's to display their skills in creating stunning floral arrangements. Through the part time floristry course, NRC has been able to develop the skills of professionals who want to expand their qualifications, while also training students who want to move into the industry."
