Ballymoney High join Rosemary Conley walk to help beat Meningitis

ALMOST 60 people, including Ballymoney High School, are gearing up to get fit and help beat meningitis later this month.

Members of the Rosemary Conley Diet and Fitness Club will be putting their best foot forward for Meningitis UK's Bordering on a Vaccine walk, which cover 201 miles across Northern Ireland to raise funds towards vaccine research.

The members, from Limavady, Coleraine, Ballymoney and Garvagh, will be joining the walk for five miles between Portstewart and Portrush on May 30.

Barbara Allison, who runs the Rosemary Conley group, said: "I am delighted that almost 60 members are joining in the walk.

"We hope to raise some vital funds for Meningitis UK as well as take the opportunity to improve our fitness as we walk five miles between Portstewart and Portrush.

"It is amazing that so many of my members and their families have at some time been affected by meningitis. It really is a great opportunity for us to enjoy a fun day out, improve our health and support a great cause."

The Bordering on a Vaccine walk starts in Derry on May 29 when the first leg stretches 18 miles to Limavady.

It then winds 23 miles from Limavady to Portrush on May 30, before progressing to Ballyvoy, Carnlough, Larne, Carrickfergus, Belfast, Newtownards, Strangford, Newcastle and finishing at Rostrevor on June 6.

Anyone can join the walk at any time and walk for any distance, with all proceeds going towards Meningitis UK's Search 4 a Vaccine Campaign, which aims to raise 7million to fund vital research into developing a vaccine against Meningitis B - the most common form of meningitis in the UK.

Everyone who takes part will receive a free commemorative t-shirt, an information pack including handy tips on how to prepare for the event and raise money, sponsorship forms and support from the charity's fundraising team.
