The two vehicle crash happened on the Garryduff Road outside Ballymoney.

Cllr Wilson said: “Olaf was one of the last true colourful characters and Dervock and Ballymoney will be a little less colourful now.

“He was well known for his singing and poetry and telling of yarns and this is a devastating loss to the local community.

“It is a very sad time.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident.

Inspector Donna Bowden said: “It is believed that this road traffic collision occurred shortly before 7.30am this morning. I would appeal to anyone who was travelling on the Garryduff Road around this time and who may have witnessed this incident, or anyone who has any information about it, to contact Police on the non-emergency number 101.
