Ballynure OBs' cup game falls victim to weather

Ballynure OB were left without a match at the weekend when their Mossley headquarters failed a pitch inspection, and led to the postponement of their McReynolds Cup tie.

Players and officials of Desertmartin had made the long journey from County Londonderry for this quarter-final tie, but the referee ruled that following a heavy shower, parts of the ground, were unfit for play.

Meanwhile at league level, with five games to play to complete their programme, a ding-dong battle is raging between Ballynure and Newtowne for the title. The Limavady lads are two points ahead, but they still have to come to Ballynure, and the outcome of this clash could well decide the destiny of the silverware. Gary Burns’ brother, Ronnie, also had no game at the weekend, when his side, Ballyclare Comrades Reserves, had a free weekend. This weekend’s match is against Cookstown RBL at Antrim Forum.

l Clough Rangers Athletic 4, Larne Olympic 2: This was a welcome win for Clough but a dent in the Larne title aspirations. Robbie Sutherland made it three nil for Clough on the 57th minute followed by Richard Ross making it four nil on the 64th minute.

Larne hit back with Elliott Hayes scoring on the 64th minute but it was late in the game when Daniel McWilliams scored their second on the 84th minute.
