Ballyronan resurfacing welcomed

BALLYRONAN Main Street is to be resurfaced as part of this year’s Road Service work programme, SDLP councillor Christine McFlynn has revealed.

The Cookstown councillor welcomed the news adding that work should begin between now and March.

“Although a certain start date has yet to be confirmed, it is expected that preparatory work should begin in the next month with final surfacing work taking place probably in March,” said Councillor McFlynn.

“The stretch of footway at Hawthorne’s pub is to be included. Road Service have also suggested that they may be able to resurface around the Marina road if funds and time allows.

“There will be some disruption during the final phase as the street will need to be closed for a couple of days and a major diversion put in place. However, the improvement to the road for local residents and road users should be worth the temporary inconvenience.

“That has certainly been the case with recent resurfacing work on some rural roads, particularly along Ballygrooby Road and Rogully Road.

“Local SDLP representatives are continuing to lobby for a new footpath along Ballyneill Road. We are gaining support from local groups, primary school and have started a petition in the local shop and school. Residents can pledge support by signing the petition.”
