Ban on man’s name and address

A court has banned the publication of the name and address of a Lurgan man charged with having an indecent photograph of a child on September 22.

He appeared last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court and his solicitor asked for reporting restrictions.

He argued that if the matter was published a relative of the defendant could face ‘great difficulties’ and may have to leave his home.

Because of the nature of the offence, the court was told, if it became known within the locality retribution may be taken on the defendant and his relative.

Deputy District Judge, Anne Marshall, granted the application for restrictions and remanded the accused to December 13.

She said if the press wanted to make representations they could do so at that court.
