The centre is nominated in the ‘Public Choice’ category in the RIAI Irish Architecture Awards 2016 organised by The Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI).

The £16 million Health and Care Centre and Day Care facility opened in January. Around 220 staff are based at the Health and Care Centre providing a range of community services. The Linenbridge Centre is the day care centre for learning disability and physical disability clients.

Designed by Kennedy FitzGerald Architects with Avanti Architects, the centre only recently won the Royal Society of Ulster Architecture award for best public building over £3m and The Royal British Institute of Architecture (RIBA) Regional award. The building was described by judges as “a calm uplifting civic building deftly interwoven into its site, a tangible affirmation of the value of the public domain.”

Commenting on this latest nomination, Charlene Stoops, Assistant Director of Corporate Planning for the Southern Health and Social Care Trust said: “Development of community services is key priority for the Trust, we are very proud of our existing health and care centre in Portadown and newly opened Banbridge Centre and want people in other towns across our area to benefit from more one-stop centres like these in the future.

“The Banbridge centre took years of planning and hard work to develop, liaising closely with staff and local people to design a modern, spacious and purpose built centre. We are delighted that the feedback from patients and clients has been very positive since we opened in January and that our commitment to architectural excellence in this project has been recognised with our UK award.

“The RIAI Award depends on a public vote so we appeal to local people to show their support by clicking on the link and voting for us.”

You can vote online at www.irisharchitectureawards.ie/public-choice/ up to 12 noon on Friday (June 17).
