Banbridge chef passes on skills to First Minister

BANBRIDGE chef, Jonny Finney, passed on his expert culinary skills to celebrity chefs Peter Robinson (First Minister) and Paul Clark (UTV) at a fundraising event ‘Celebrity Ready Steady Cook’ held in Café Vic-Ryn, Lisburn on Saturday March 3.

The Café Vic-Ryn in-house chef gave a quick demonstration on how to create delicious dishes prior to Peter and Paul - jokingly referred to on the evening as the two little dickey birds - battling it out against the clock to cook each starter, main course and dessert.

Compere Nigel Woods, a House of Vic-Ryn salesman, kept an endless supply of jokes going during a great evening of fun and craic. BBC Sports Journalist Denise Watson was the celebrity taster; she was assisted by locals Alastair Henderson, Paul Givan MLA, Pastor Nick Serb and Hazel Black.

In the end, the people in the audience were the judges and the winner was the First Minister. The prize was presented by Colleen Shaw (Director, Friends of the Cancer Centre) who then gave a brief overview of the work of the Cancer Centre.

A delicious fork supper of Caribbean Chicken, a popular main course on the Café Vic-Ryn daily lunchtime menu, was served after the cook off. All proceeds for the charity evening, over £2,500, are in aid of Friends of the Cancer Centre.
