Banbridge family lends support to Soldiers’ Charity

A BANBRIDGE family collected more than £800 for The Soldiers’ Charity recently to show their support for troops and veterans.

Michele Weir was joined outside Tesco’s Castlewellan Road store by her son Neil and daughter Jayne and Neil’s girlfriend Alanna Black where shoppers donated a staggering £836.

The Soldiers’ Charity cares for soldiers, former soldiers and families which have fallen on hard times.

Michele said she could not believe how generous people were on the day. “There were so many people who approached us and wanted to donate,” she said. “It was a fantastic day out and I am just glad to be able to help out for such a great cause. I’d like to thank everyone who contributed and Tesco for letting us collect outside the store.”

The charity’s Regional Director for Northern Ireland David Forsey said, “Everyone was so generous and really interested in the work which we do. Michele and her family have done the charity proud.

“The reception we got at Tesco from local residents just shows how much they support our soldiers,” he added.

Anyone wishing to volunteer for the charity can call the main office on 02892 678112 or those wishing to donate can send a cheque made out to ABF to The Soldiers’ Charity, building 45, Thiepval Barracks, Lisburn BT28 3NP.
