Banbridge gallery hosts new Parallel Visions exhibition

The exhibition, drawn from the collection of the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA), runs in conjunction with the Highlanes Gallery in Drogheda.

It features sculpture and installation works by renowned Irish and international artists including Richard Long, Dorothy Cross and Eva Rothschild.

Parallel Visions presents a wide variety of works, some large scale and some more intimate, in materials including bronze, limestone and alabaster all of which demonstrate the vast breadth and scope of the Irish Museum of Modern Art’s collection and their own collecting practice.

Johanne Mullan, National Programmer at IMMA, said “We are delighted to show works from the IMMA collection in the F.E. McWilliam Gallery & Studio and to support the use of the Museum’s collection as a significant national resource.

“The Collection exists for the public and with these parallel exhibitions we hope to connect with many more visitors nationwide.”

Claire Dalton, acting co-curator of the F.E. McWilliam Gallery, commented: “Having the opportunity to see a selection of this highly important collection in Banbridge really is an experience not to be missed.

“We also want to encourage our visitors to make the trip to Highlanes Gallery in Drogheda, our partners in the exhibition, who will be showing other highlights from the collection.”

The Irish Museum of Modern Art, which is based in the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, Dublin, is highly regarded throughout the art world for the diverse range and relevance of its exhibitions, for its innovative use of its growing collection and for its award-winning education and community programme.

IMMA’s WHAT IS_? programme comprises talks, information booklets and web resources in order to introduce key concepts and themes within contemporary art for a general audience.

During the course of the exhibition Sinead Hogan from the School of Creative Arts, IADT Dun Laoghaire, who has written an information booklet on the theme of sculpture as part of the WHAT IS_? Programme, will present a talk in the gallery.
