Banbridge gave it a go!

MANY people in the Banbridge area joined in the fun of the groundbreaking healthy living initiative called “Give it a Go!” helping them get active, eat well and feel good.

Each participant in the programme was also offered the opportunity to enter a prize draw to win leisure and grocery vouchers with a combined value of £100 and the lucky winner in the Banbridge area was Stephen Cunningham.

The “Give it a Go!” month-long programme of events was a big hit with people of all ages, who took up the offer of £1 swims at their local leisure centre and a wide range of free activities such as supermarket tours, sessions on how to grow salad, vegetables and herbs, and a wide range of ‘taster’ sessions for physical activities such as kids’ spin classes, walks for all ages and archery and boccia for people with a disability.

Feedback from the programme is currently being collated, but so far the response has been very positive. One participant said, “All activities associated with health and fitness are beneficial and interesting and I would most definitely attend all if possible.”

Even though the “Give it a Go!” month-long programme is now over, the website lives on. Over the summer, with the London Olympics taking place, people living in the Armagh City and District, Banbridge District, Craigavon Borough and Newry & Mourne District Council areas can check out www.giveitago.org.uk for details of fun activities in their area.

The “Give it a Go!” initiative was organised through a partnership between Public Health Agency (PHA), Southern Group Environmental Health Committee, Southern Health and Social Care Trust, Armagh City and District Council, Banbridge District Council, Craigavon Borough Council, Newry and Mourne District Council.
