Henderson Retail’s SPAR, Banbridge store and their customers raised the money which will go towards the NSPCC’s ChildLine Schools Service in a recent fundraising drive for the charity.

The store hosted a range of activities over the fundraising weekend, including raffles, tea parties, fancy dress days and fun days for families.

SPAR stores from all over the country got involved in the ‘Change for Children’ weekend and raised a combined total of £19,000.

These much-needed funds will enable the ChildLine Schools Service to be rolled out to even more primary schools across Northern Ireland to give children the awareness they need to recognise abuse, and to seek help sooner.

Catherine Nuttall, Head of local fundraising for NSPCC Northern Ireland, said: “The ChildLine Schools Service has already visited 36,972 children in 653 primary schools across Northern Ireland.

“Delivered by trained volunteers and provided free to all primary schools, it aims to help children aged 9-11 understand abuse.

“The service gives them the confidence to talk about it, the knowledge to prevent it and the courage to find help if they ever need it.

“We are really delighted that so many stores, especially SPAR Banbridge were so enthusiastic and willing to support the ‘Change for Children’ weekend.

“Particular thanks to their customers for giving so generously to help our ChildLine Schools Service continue to play an important role within local communities.”

Corporate Marketing Controller for Henderson Group, Bronagh Luke, said: “We are delighted so many of our stores across Northern Ireland had so much fun supporting Change for Children Weekend while helping Children and families in our local communities.”
