“I was delighted to have been able to reinstate the Musical Instruments for Bands Programme this year to enable bands to replace or purchase new instruments and have allocated £200,000 to the Arts Council in the current financial year for the scheme.

“Bands play an extremely important role in community and cultural life in Northern Ireland and I want to ensure that the sector continues to thrive and attract new members.

“I also see bands having an important role in areas such as community regeneration and social inclusion which is of immense benefit to growing sustainable local communities.”

The Minister concluded: “With a closing date for applications of Thursday 15 September 2016, I would encourage relevant groups to avail of this funding opportunity and submit your applications in good time with the advice and guidance on offer at this information workshop.”
