Banned for no insurance

A SIX-week driving ban and a £550 fine was the punishment for a Larne man who was caught driving without insurance.

Christopher Cash, 20, of Regents Park, pleaded guilty to the offence. He also admitted a charge of failing to wear a seat belt while driving.

The prosecution lawyer told Larne Magistrate’s Court that police had stopped Cash on Thursday, April 22 for not wearing a seat belt while driving on the A8.

They then discovered that he had no insurance. The accused told police he thought he was insured and apologised for not belting up.

Cash’s defence lawyer said his client offered “no silly excuses” for not wearing a seat belt, and added that it was the accused’s own responsibility to make sure he had insurance. District Judge Robert Alcorn also imposed a 100 fine for failing to wear a seat belt.
