Barbara urges others to jump into action for worthy cause

Barbara completed a fundraising 150ft abseil off the Europa Hotel in Belfast earlier this year in aid of the centre, along with her husband and son.

Her invaluable support helped raise funds for ‘Friends’ that will benefit thousands of cancer patients and their families who annually avail of the services of the Cancer Centre, the regional centre for excellence in cancer care, based at the Belfast City Hospital.

Barbara is keen to encourage others to sign up for the charity’s next jump on Sunday, September 23.

“Everyone should try an abseil at least once in their lifetime. I found the whole experience exhilarating and very empowering to conquer my fears and step out into the unknown. Doing it to raise funds for a charity as close to my heart as Friends of the Cancer Centre helped too, by just knowing that achieving my goal would go some way to helping support thousands of cancer patients and their families who annually avail of the services of the NI Cancer Centre.

“I chose to do the abseil for ’Friends’ as I recently received treatment at the Cancer Centre. I wanted to do something to repay the kindness and extent of care that I received from the staff at the centre and knew that if I did a fundraising event for the charity I’d also be helping other cancer patients and their families.”

Kelly Graham, events and community fundraiser for Friends of the Cancer, would love to hear from anyone who wants to prove they have a head for heights.
