Barr embraces push-up challenge

He accepted the challenge, even going so far as completing one section in a pink dressing gown and now as Councillor Glenn Barr finishes his 22 days of push-ups he has said the challenge is doing a valuable work raising awareness of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder within the Armed Forces and Veterans.

The Ulster Unionist Councillor, who is Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council Veterans advocate said: “I was nominated by big Rab McKee to do the challenge.

“It was enjoyable, I did it up on Cranfield beach as well as in a pink dressing gown - real men wear pink!

People like Colly Jardine and Nigel Hanna were counting my press-ups and giving me a bit of stick if I miss-counted.

“On a serious note there are 22 veterans a day committing suicide in America, and this is a small way to raise awareness for this issue within our own Armed Forces Community.

“The UK government and indeed the Stormont Assembly/executive have a lot to answer for with the serious lack of investment in mental health issues in Northern Ireland as well as the Armed Forces Community Covenant.”
