Barr seeks PSNI assurance over Rathfriland crime

Following an increase in anti-social behaviour in Rathfriland, Councillor Glenn Barr has met with residents and the PSNI to ensure there is an adequate police presence in the area.

Locals had expressed concern that when the PSNI changed its structure last year it would result in a rise in crime levels.

Councillor Barr said: “There has been an upsurge of reported anti-social behaviour in the Rathfriland area coupled with cars being burnt out.

“The local community needs reassuring that Rathfriland is indeed being looked after, since the reforms of policing.

“The Ulster Unionist Party will keep the pressure on to make sure that Rathfriland and surrounding areas are being well resourced in terms of policing.

“I am glad to see that people are reporting crime.

“With them reporting it, it allows the PSNI Command to steer policing assets to a specific area. If not they will not be policing that area.”
