Barracks transfer query

Ballymena Councillors want to know when land at St Patrick’s Barracks will transfer from the Office of the First and Deputy First Minister (OFMDFM) to the Department of Social Development (DSD) and are sending a letter to find out.

They agreed to send the correpsondence at their February monthly meeting at the suggestion of their Chief Executive Anne Donaghy.

Councillors were reminded that the OFMDFM are working with Council and DSD to develop strategic plans for the site, parts of which have been confirmed by the OFMDFM for public sector use.

Council is interested in securing a substantial part of the Barracks site including the playing field, games hall and gymnasium with the intention of putting it to community and sporting use.

At last Monday night’s meeting, Ms Donaghy said that Council needed to find out “prior to local government reforms” when OFMDFM will be transferring the site to DSD.
