Basil McCrea will not stand for Lagan Valley in May election
It was revealed this week that NI21, which is led by Lagan Valley MLA Basil McCrea, will not be fielding a candidate locally in next month’s election.
It had been expected that Mr McCrea would once again challenge sitting MP Jeffrey Donaldson for the Westminster seat, as he did under the UUP banner at the last general election.
However, the party confirmed this week that Mr McCrea would not be running in his own constituency and that the party would not be fielding a candidate at all in Lagan Valley.
This decision has led many to question whether Mr McCrea will contest his Lagan Valley seat in next year’s Assembly election.
