Battle of Britain service at Newbuildings Independent Methodist Church

A SPECIAL service to mark the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain will be held in Newbuildings Independent Methodist Church on Remembrance Sunday at 7pm.

The purpose of the service is to give humble and reverent thanks to Almighty God for our deliverance from the threat of German domination. It is generally agreed that the Battle of Britain was the turning point in World War II. It was during the battle on August 20th 1940 that Sir Winston Churchill spoke the immortal words "

Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few." We do owe so much to the brave fighter pilots who took their Spitfires and Hurricanes up into the skies of southern England to face the might of the Luftwaffe. But we owe a greater debt to the LORD whose unseen hand was at work, protecting and defending these islands from a cruel enemy. A number of miracles took place during the Battle of Britain which enabled the RAF to win a victory against all the odds. At the special service of thanksgiving, Rev Jonathan Campbell will be speaking of these miracles. All Sentinel readers are invited to attend. "Thou hast saved us from our enemies, and hast put them to shame that hated us. In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever." (Psalm 44:7-8)
