Be grateful and content yourself

CHARLES Dickens once wrote, "Reflect upon your present blessings, of which every man has plenty; not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some."

It’s very difficult to be content with your lot. We have all things we would love to change, often to the extent that we overlook the good things that we have.

If you read magazines or watch television you will be constantly challenged to be thinner, to exercise more, to look different, adding or taking away from our body as it is now! All making us discontent with our present.

Contentment and happiness with our present come from within and not from outside circumstances. They come from changing the things we can and need to, by accepting and learning to live with the things we cannot change - and having the wisdom to know the difference. They come from the attitude of one's heart and mind, and learning to trust God in everything.

The Message speaks in Matthew, Chapter 5, about being content with your present blessings when it says

"You're blessed when you're content with just who you are - no more, no less. That's the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can't be bought." Matthew 5:5 (TM)

Jesus addresses this again in Matthew 23:11-12, "Do you want to stand out? Then step down. Be a servant. If you puff yourself up, you'll get the wind knocked out of you. But if you're content to simply be yourself, your life will count for plenty." (TM)

There’s a lot to be said for simply being yourself - after all there is no one in the world exactly the same as us. That is probably a very good thing, so make the best of who you are – no more, no less.
