The latest incident last week saw police mount a major overnight search operation in the Shore Road area after officers received a tip-off that a suspicious object had been left at Mill Road.

There was also a similar security alert in the nearby Whitewell Road area during which a number of residents had to be evacuated from their homes for several hours.

“A thorough search was carried out in the area overnight following information that suggested there may be something suspicious in the area,” a PSNI spokesperson explained.

“While nothing untoward was found, we would ask that should someone come across a suspicious object they do not touch it and contact police straightaway.

“We would also appeal to anyone who sees anyone acting suspiciously in the area to contact police.”

Police officers can be contacted at Newtownabbey Station on 0845 600 8000.
