Beach clean-up - ‘We’ll do it again’

The organiser of a big beach clean-up in Ballycastle hopes to do it all again in the future.

Connal o hArtghaile, a local surfer and Surfers Against Sewage Supporter, persuaded a number of his friends as well as TidyNI, Ballycastle Community Development Group and Moyle District Council to help remove the large amount of debris from the local tourist spot.

More than 50 bags were cllected in three hours by the 40 or so volunteers the majority of which came from a well-known drinking spot hidden amongst the dunes. Almost 30 full bin bags of glass bottles and empty beer cans were collected by the group in one area.

Councillor Donal Cunningham who took part in the beach clean added “This was a first class effort by a great bunch of community spirited individuals; they did a great job in cleaning up Ballycastle Strand on what was a beautiful Easter morn. I hope we will be able to come back again to do something similar next year.”

Conall thanked all those who took part and hoped he would see as many at the next event.
